12th Death Anniversary; Pop Singer Nazia Hassan Is Being Remembered

The pop Pakistani singer Nazia Hassan is being remembered on her 12th death anniversary today. She was great singer for Pakistan and for music lovers.

Nazia Hassan was born on 3rd April 1965 in Karachi. She began her career during the late 1970s, when she appeared on several television programs in which she performed her best. Her professional career started at the age of 15 when she provided the lead vocals for the song Aap Jaisa Koi for the movie Qurbani (1980) and after a year she won Filmfare award for it.

Also in award-wining year she became the first playback singer to release an album after the release of her first album, Disco Deewane. Nazia’s 2nd album Star/Boom Boom was revealed in 1981 and the soundtrack of the album was featured in the movie Star.

The singer’s third album, Young Tarang was released in 1984 which was sold about 40 million copies and got the most selling album record all the times. Hotline was the fourth album which was released in 1987.

Nazia and her brother Zoheb once appeared at the TV show, Sung Sung which the used to cast by music maestro Sohail Rana. In the following year she and her brother hosted the groundbreaking program Music 89.

In the same year she hosted another show, Dhanak on PTV in 1989. After the two years, the two siblings headed to record their fifth album, Camera Camera which was released in 1992.

Nazia married to Mirza Ishtiaq Baig on March 30, 1995 and they had a son named Arez, on April 7, 1997. But it was not a successful marriage as she was divorced on August 4, 2000.

In August of the same year she died of lung cancer in London at the age of 35. The Government of the Pakistan has conferred upon her the highest civilian award Pride of Performance.
